You didn't raise it using z-index, so even though the red fixed element was created earlier, it ended up logically behind the later-created div.example.

If the div.test was added second, it will be on top if neither element has a z-index set.

Demo: div.test comes second (Without a custom z-index, the browser places elements on the Z-axis based on their order in the HTML.)
