I never go shopping without my Yuka app. This is my third year of subscribing to this app and it’s worth every penny. Minimal mistakes and if you find one, they’ll make corrections. It’s our responsibility to be our own advocates of what goes in our bodies and on our hair and skin. This is one of the best tools in my toolbox.

Great info and easy to use. Still using the unpaid version but it’s super helpful - real human that’s just a regular guy actually using the app not a bot

OK, so for anyone who is reading this I highly recommend getting this app. It is so useful
To get a rating on food and cosmetics and drinks 📝

It’s also free and there are in app purchases, but it doesn’t force you to purchase anything and also it gives you a lot of stuff for free as well 😁

Another thing I also love is if you scan a cosmetic or food/drink that has something bad in it it shows information and you can read about the things it has so you can literally learn too!🥰

So to whoever made this app, thank you very much ❤️❤️❤️

I pray that anyone who reads this has a very very blessed life. God in Jesus love you so much thank you for taking the time to read this! 🙏🏼🌷☀️❤️

I think this app is extremely useful, especially for US users where regulation of dangerous food additives is very lax (e.g. considered harmless unless shown to be harmful). I was shocked how bad was the products I regularly ate!! A must have.

Helping you avoid toxic products.
We sell Clarity Cosmetics skin cream and it blows away the rest of the toxic products on the market and now Yuka helps us prove it.

Love using this app to make a more informed decision on what to consume. Quite surprising on what is allowed in food here in the US. Definitely recommend using this app if you want to know more or make an informed decision on your diet.

I used to really enjoy Yuka and recommended it for years. It felt like a smart, easy way to make better choices at the store. However, as I’ve become more intentional about my health, I’ve realized the app has some major limitations that people should be aware of.

Yuka presents itself as a tool to help consumers avoid harmful ingredients, but its evaluation system relies heavily on regulatory classifications and simplified nutrition metrics rather than a deeper look at ingredient quality and how foods are actually processed.

One thing that stands out is how much the scoring system emphasizes basic nutritional values, like low sugar, low calories, or low fat, while giving far less weight to the nature and quality of the ingredients themselves. A product can receive a “good” rating largely because it is low in sugar or calories, even if it contains highly processed additives or artificial ingredients.

Low calorie doesn’t automatically mean low risk.

For example, ingredients like maltodextrin are not flagged as concerning within the app because they are not classified as additives under certain international standards. However, maltodextrin is a highly processed carbohydrate with an extremely high glycemic index, meaning it can spike blood sugar rapidly and may negatively impact metabolic health when consumed regularly.

Similarly, “natural flavors” are treated as neutral, even though they are highly processed compounds that can contain dozens of undisclosed chemical constituents. While they originate from natural sources, the final product lacks transparency, which can be a concern for those trying to limit ultraprocessed ingredients.

Even stevia, often perceived as a clean alternative, is simplified within the app. Highly refined stevia extracts differ significantly from the whole plant, and that nuance isn’t clearly communicated.

Another major concern is the lack of caution around artificial sweeteners like sucralose. Sucralose is created by chemically modifying sugar molecules and is widely marketed as a calorie free alternative. However, emerging research suggests it may impact gut bacteria, glucose metabolism, and insulin response. Additionally, when exposed to high heat, it can break down into potentially harmful compounds. Despite this, the app provides little to no warning about products that contain it.

After reaching out to the company, it became clear that Yuka’s system is built around what regulatory bodies officially classify as risky, rather than taking a more proactive or precautionary approach to ingredient quality.

That distinction matters.

If you’re someone who is simply trying to avoid clearly harmful additives, this app may still be helpful. But if your goal is to minimize ultraprocessed ingredients, support gut health, or take a more holistic approach to nutrition, Yuka may give a false sense of security.

An app that simplifies food choices shouldn’t also oversimplify ingredient safety.

Double win with this app. Extremely helpful for individuals to make smart food choices and to leverage the food industry to help people over profits.

This app is amazing great job. I use it on just about whatever I buy. But there’s a few things it doesn’t evaluate and that’s refined sugars which to me is one of the most beneficial to stay away from.

This app is amazing, it tells you what bad ingredients are in products, and also give advice for products that are better
