Unlike serious role-playing games, which attempt to simulate certain situations and interactions in the business world, tabletop role-playing games set their narrative in a fictional universe. RPG games provide an excellent opportunity to analyse the interaction and thinking patterns of participants and offers the possibility to develop new behaviours and testing them over the course of one or more game sessions, using the “decontextualised” simulation system on a benevolent testing ground, an immersive simulation environment that enables analysis and personal growth work. This activity has been the subject of workshops run by PsychoStratégie SA, which constitute a case study showing how tabletop RPGs can be used in an innovative way to develop the managerial skills of professionals through a deeper understanding of their own interactional and reflexive patterns and the development of new behaviours and tactics.
