Unveiling the Dynamics of Super Apps: Adoption Factors and Strategic Insights across Key Industries
This study examined the emerging phenomenon of super apps, which are comprehensive platforms transforming mobile applications worldwide. It expanded the focus beyond mobility-based super apps to analyze their adoption across five critical sectors: mobility, food delivery and mobility, messaging, fintech, and e-commerce. Using logistic regression models on a dataset of 1,783 enterprises, of which 43 were classified as super apps, the study identified key factors that influence super app adoption. More specifically, this research fills a significant gap in the literature on platforms and multi-sided markets by evaluating the strategic development of super apps from a multisectoral perspective. In addition, it presents a conceptual framework for analyzing the technological infrastructure, regulatory landscape, market economics, and competition, as well as the network effects and multi-sided market dynamics that influence the growth trajectories of super apps.
