Product Positioning & Context

The definitive digital archive of Sanzo Wada’s legendary color theory. Master professional palettes used in branding, UI/UX, and digital art with seamless pro exports.

Sanzo Color Palettes brings the legendary work of Japanese artist and designer Sanzo Wada (1883-1967) to your mobile device. Wada was a pioneer of modern color usage, and his foundational research is preserved in the seminal works, A Dictionary of Color Combinations Volume 1 and Volume 2. This app meticulously adapts these collections for the modern digital era, offering almost 600 curated color schemes organized by shade and application.

Whether you are a graphic designer, illustrator, interior specialist, or brand strategist, Sanzo Color Palettes provides the intentionality and historical depth required for high-level creative work.

HISTORICAL DEPTH MEETS MODERN UTILITY
The app serves as a digital companion to A Dictionary of Color Combinations, providing instant access to palettes themed on the Japanese seasons, traditional aesthetics, and early-to-mid twentieth-century fashion and graphic design.

LIQUID GLASS INTERFACE
Experience the visual evolution of iOS 26 with our Liquid Glass UI. Leveraging advanced rendering engines, the app provides a translucent, immersive depth that makes browsing and selecting colors more intuitive and focused.

INSTANT COLOR FILTERS
Navigate the extensive library with precision. Use the integrated hue filters to discover specific tones and palettes instantly. Sort by warmth, cool tones, or specific color families to find the exact match for your project.

PROFESSIONAL WORKFLOW EXPORTS
Transition seamlessly from inspiration to production. Export your favorite palettes as Adobe Swatch Exchange (.ASE) files for immediate use in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. High-quality PDF exports are also available for professional presentations and client collaboration.

I thought I would be able to make my own palettes and adjust the shades. Or maybe I could choose a color and I would see what colors work best with it. But it’s all so random. A dark purple paired with a bright red, lime green, navy blue, and butter yellow? It doesn’t make sense. These are not colors you’d typically use together in your home or an art project. There is no option to swap out colors in the palettes and no option to add a singular color to the favorites folder?

I primarily downloaded the app as an interesting aesthetic accessory for the Home Screen widget, but I’d rather it not take up the majority of the screen. The actual app is simple and pleasant as a creative reference, tho it’s usefulness to me longterm as an app to keep nestled away on the phone likely has a short shelf life aside from that aesthetic. Please, consider a future plethora of varied widget options
