Product Positioning & Context

Say goodbye to manual editing and inaccurate speech-to-text transcriptions. Powered by Google's latest Gemma technology, Google AI Edge Eloquent is an advanced dictation app engineered to bridge the gap between natural speech and professional, ready-to-use text.

Unlike standard dictation software that transcribes stumbles and filler words verbatim, Eloquent utilizes AI to capture your intended meaning. It automatically edits out "ums," "uhs," and mid-sentence self-corrections, outputting clean, accurate prose. Powered by Google's Gemma architecture, this application utilizes highly efficient, open-weight, on-device models to deliver responsive speech-to-text without requiring a server connection.

Core Features & Capabilities:
- Intelligent Text Polish: Automatically transforms disorganized speech and stumbles into flawless text, understanding context to deliver your actual meaning.
- Uncompromising Privacy: All machine learning processing runs entirely locally on your iOS device. Your audio, confidential conversations, and personal data never leave your device (some advanced optional features require cloud).
- Personal context dictionary: Creates an editable dictionary by learning from your vocabulary to improve accuracy of dictation. Optionally connect your Google account to build the dictionary from your Google account data which is processed securely on device.
- Optimized Performance: Efficient Google AI Edge runtimes provide highly responsive dictation capabilities without requiring the latest flagship smartphone.

2026-04-13 Findings: In offline-only mode, application attempts to connect to three websites upon launch (all .com sites):

clients.l.google; odml.pa.googleapis; app-analytics-services

More I've been thinking y'all might be a tiny team with huge latitude and that no-network toggle suggestion might be a quick internal discussion away. Pls if feasible too: a little transparency regarding offline mode that, for quality, you'll still siphon a bit of telemetry (“no transcripts!” or w/e)… knowing what you’re collecting provides comfort. (Ur open models rock btw)

[2026-04-11 UPDATE] Thank you for the reply. Please note neglect to include context around hard-coded, non-skippable, 30sec delay when Google servers are inaccessible in spite of being in offline mode, & application taking only 5 seconds when Internet access is available. Was there a character limit, or why was I not asked if I had tried waiting ~35 seconds + perhaps take the time to explain what my phone is trying to do during the hardcoded 30-second splash screen delay? Maybe unexpected behavior on this iPhone 17 Pro, understand it happens. (BTW, “disable all cloud features” meant the cloud icon you immediately referenced which made me think I might sound non-credible to readers.) Cheers research team

PS: adding a “no network access” mode makes the final marketing screenshot more honest - I love cloud but when I go local I expect assurances

Don’t trust me, test yourself: download, open, disable all cloud features, enable airplane mode, record perfectly. Force quit app. Reopen app. You are not permitted to dictate again as your device has not phoned home to the Big G server.

Works remarkably well for my voice notes, they are usually just ready to share without back and forth pasting into ChatGPT which I used to do earlier. I would like it even better if there was a keyboard for easy access when in other apps. Btw kudos to whoever added the “long” text option. It’s quite entertaining. I find it even useful to build on my ideas!

We were promised something that would revolutionize the way we write. I want something I can use to write short stories and test dialogue with. This is not it. 1) you cannot come back and finish something if you get interrupted, 2) there is no way to enter quotes (ie he said, “I don’t like that.”) or any other punctuation. 3) there is no way to divide ideas into paragraphs. Commands like “new paragraph” don’t work. This is a very limited notepad. In fact, it’s so limited I was not able to dictate this review. None of the punctuation such as “ or ) would show up. It would have been scrubbed out.

Keyboard shortcuts didn’t come to mind?

Super powerful and accurate, love it!

Very quick quite accurate at dictation
Polishing meant deleting the final two-thirds of the dictation
Saving means you can find the polished butchery but cannot recover the original

FAIL

So, here's the fun thing: I dictated this part of the review to Google AI Edge Eloquent. Whatever spelling or capitalization stuff—like if I say, "Hey, this is really cool and it works well," and it gets punctuation perfectly—and then I say something else, it figures out natural speech. I know this is a long review, but I'm just showing you that I'm just talking at my phone, and oh my god, it got everything right. The next section—oh, that'll be fun because that's Apple.

Cool so here’s the Apple section and if I say something like hey this is absolute well sheet and then I continue talking and it’s like can this figure out the correct punctuation? Does it look like I dictated this or I’m a sloppy 10-year-old that typed this exclusively with my thumbs you be the judge it’s too simple clear examples of dictating regular speech with nothing unique or special or different between recording the two

I dictated a long document, this app decided to throwaway more than half and has no way of copying the original transcript, only their “polished” version. I can see the original but have no way to interact with it. This is beyond amateurish design.

Very good voice to text and I like the fact that it will copy to the clipboard automatically. My hope is that one day the dictation on IOS will be as good as on the Google Pixels. I hate the IOS keyboard with a passion.

I performed a simple UAT check. Stop using app. Open app multiple times across multiple days. Observe wpm. Acceptance: wpm does not change. Results: wpm changes. Gotta sort that out for trust purposes.

Love this app! Needs dark mode. Would be cool when opening the app it can load right away instead of having the splash screen show up.

But this app rocks!

Please add Spanish

I’ve been waiting for something like this! I don’t see any sense in paying yet another $15 subscription fee that many of the other apps charge for this. Eloquent works really well for my dictation needs, when I’m driving or pacing around to get a bunch of thoughts out etc. the different text styles are a really nice touch to make the polished text. Google I love what you have here, please keep it around and keep improving!
