Not a problem, would be happy to tag along for that as well.

Sure, but there is a major rewrite going on, just keep that in mind.

I am adding the Qt path currently, and hopefully it will be feature complete by the end of this week.

I was able to build it on Arch doing the following:
1. Install the required packages:
```bash
sudo pacman -S --needed base-devel boost clang cmake ninja opencv openssl pkgconf gobject-introspection ffmpeg rubberband alsa-lib gtk4 libadwaita pipewire libglvnd gtksourceview5 vte4 poppler-glib freetype2 lld cuda rustup qt6-base qt6-declarative uv
```
2. Install the required rust components
```bash
rustup toolchain install nightly-2026-04-03 --component rust-src,rustc-dev,llvm-tools,rustfmt,clippy
```
3. Get the submodules
```bash
git submodule update --init --recursive --progress
```
4. Build and install cargo-oxide
```bash
cd {REPO}/external/cuda-oxide/crates/rustc-codegen-cuda
SYSROOT="$(rustc --print sysroot)"
LIBRARY_PATH="$SYSROOT/lib" LD_LIBRARY_PATH="$SYSROOT/lib" cargo build --lib --target host-tuple --target-dir target
```
After building and installing cargo-oxide, set a `CUDA_OXIDE_BACKEND` environment variable so it uses the built one in the `make dev`:
```bash
export CUDA_OXI...
I mean, the debian dependencies are probably too old.
Also I think the docs are a bit wrong. I am working on that.
### **I tried building this on Debian 13 (Spoilers: it did not work)**
Here's what I tried:
### **1. Making sure you have rustup and cargo**
```
sudo apt install curl build-essential
curl --proto '=https' --tlsv1.2 -sSf https://sh.rustup.rs | sh
```
### **2. Reload shell configuration**
`source "$HOME/.cargo/env"`
### **3. Installing the rest of the dependencies (did this on debian, probably works for ubuntu as well):**
```
sudo apt update && sudo apt install -y libboost-all-dev clang libclang-dev cmake g++ lld ninja-build pkg-config libgirepository1.0-dev libgtk-4-dev libadwaita-1-dev libgtksourceview-5-dev libvte-2.91-gtk4-dev libopencv-dev libavcodec-dev libavformat-dev libswscale-dev libavutil-dev libpipewire-0.3-dev libasound2-dev librubberband-dev libssl-dev libglvnd-dev libpoppler-glib-dev libfreetype-dev
```
### **4. Clone this repo**
`git clone https://github.com/soirihiroka/shrimply.git`
`cd shrimply`
### **5. Install these packages:**
`rustup toolchain install` .
`cargo...
same here! this is a really cool project and would love to see it supported on more platforms.
soirihiroka • Aug 31, 2026
If you just install all the dependencies, I assume you can just build it on Ubuntu.
Ratamiru • Aug 30, 2026
`opencv-devel` is the one I'd still flag — `opencv` is declared in this repo's own `Cargo.toml:137` and pulled in by `crates/stabilization/mesh-flow-stabilization` and `crates/stabilization/affine-l1-stabilization`. That one has nothing to do with CUDA Oxide.
On `lld`: it's this repo's own tracked `.cargo/config.toml` that sets `-C link-arg=-fuse-ld=lld` for the target, plus `Makefile:18`. Every link in the workspace needs it whether or not CUDA Oxide is involved.
On `clang`: you're right that `bindgen` in `cuda-bindings` needs it. It's also reached independently via `opencv` → `clang` v2.1.0 → `clang-sys`, so it's required either way.
Agreed on `rust`/`cargo` — that one is cosmetic, and I've left it alone in the PR below.
That said, I'd argue where a requirement originates is somewhat beside the point: `make deps-fedora` is the documented way to prepare a Fedora machine, and CUDA Oxide is a pinned submodule rather than something people install separately. A fresh Fedora box follow...
idk, maybe ask some llm to help you
soirihiroka • Aug 30, 2026
lld and clang are required by CUDA Oxide I believe.
I may remove rust/cargo but honestly that shouldn't matter.
Currently on arch with amd, I would love to use this whenever this gets implemented :D
MountNoperest • Aug 30, 2026
This is a cool project! I would love to see cross platform, or at least be able to compile it natively with a AMD GPU in Linux,
it dosen't compile on Fedora 43 and AMD GPU, no surprise there. I know ZLUDA is a thing, but I haven't tried to see if it compiles with it.
Fyrstikkeske • Aug 30, 2026
i agree, turns out my rtx 2060 isn't compatible with the shaders used rn
> Remember to clone git submodule
I did `git submodule update --init --recursive` on an already cloned repo and it didn't work. For this reason cloned a new one with `git clone https://github.com/soirihiroka/shrimply.git shrimply2 --recurse-submodules -j8` and still getting the same error.
