Product Positioning & Context

AI Executive Synthesis
Professional-grade VFX compositing; industry-standard color pipeline
The absence of advanced color management, specifically OpenColorIO (OCIO) support, is a critical limitation for effectcraft targeting professional VFX compositing. OCIO is an industry standard for consistent color pipelines across various applications and stages of production. Without it, effectcraft cannot guarantee color accuracy, leading to inconsistent results and workflow breakdowns in professional environments. This omission immediately disqualifies the product for serious VFX work, where precise color fidelity is paramount. Implementing OCIO is not a feature enhancement but a foundational requirement for market viability in high-end post-production, indicating a significant gap in its professional-grade capabilities.

Im not agreeing here I always hated it that Color Settings opens on the bit depth window and dont have a proper designated Setting per Project basis.
I would even go so far and say pleeeease give us a per comp base color transform option so we can have mixed footage and have one master comp to bring it all together
MysteryPancake • Oct 7, 2026
Ah ok, normally the color menu opens when you click the "8 bpc" button in the corner under the files list.
In this implementation the button just toggles to 16 or 32 bit.

It would be better if this button opened the color settings menu.
I think this button is for the global OCIO config which may not be added yet.

Thanks for raising this, @MysteryPancake! Some of it is already in EffectCraft, though it's easy to miss:

- **File ▸ Project Settings:**
- Color engine: Adobe-style built-in, or OCIO with a built-in ACES config.
- Working spaces: ACEScg, ACES2065-1, sRGB, Rec. 709, Rec. 2020 and Display P3.
- Linearize working space, Blend colors using 1.0 gamma, and 32 bpc float.
- HDR on SDR displays and outputs: clip, compand or tone map.
- Output spaces including Rec. 2100 PQ and HLG.
- **Per item and in the viewer:** Interpret Footage ▸ Color ▸ Assign Profile, View ▸ Use Display Color Management, and Simulate Output.
- **Effects:** the OCIO effects (CDL, Color Space, Display, File and Look Transform) read custom `.ocio` configs (Configuration ▸ Custom). Apply Color LUT takes .cube, .3dl and .csp.

What's still missing for real OCIO compositing is your own config driving the whole project, as in After Effects' OCIO-managed mode. That covers three things:
- a custom config for the project...
