Hacker News Show HN: Figma 3D Tilt, Like "Firefox Tilt" but for Figma

A revival and adaptation of the "Firefox Tilt" concept for Figma, offering a spatial view of design layers to identify structural issues (nesting depth, wrapper bloat, stacking problems) more effectively than flat tree views. Emphasizes direct manipulation of the "real" file structure in Figma, unlike browser DOM inspectors.

The persistent challenge in design and development workflows involves understanding complex hierarchical structures. While browser-based 3D DOM inspectors failed, the core visualization concept remains valuable. Figma 3D Tilt reintroduces this spatial inspection for design files, directly addressing the pain point of deciphering nesting depth, wrapper bloat, and stacking issues within Figma's native layer structure. This tool offers a superior diagnostic capability compared to traditional flat tree views. Its free, no-network-access model and 2k user adoption suggest a clear demand for intuitive structural analysis within design environments. This highlights a market need for specialized visualization tools that enhance developer and designer productivity by making abstract structures tangible.
Firefox had a 3D DOM inspector called Tilt. Edge DevTools had one too. Both got killed. The idea was good though. Pull the layers apart, see the structure spatially instead of reading a flat tree. It makes nesting depth, wrapper bloat, and stacking problems obvious in a way a panel never will.I wanted it for Figma so I built it.One difference worth noting. In the browser, the 3D view is a visualization of the rendered output. The layers are a representation of something else. In Figma, the layers are the actual structure. They are not a picture of the file. They are the file. So when you pull them apart in 3D you are looking at the real thing, not a shadow of it.2k users. Free. No network access + You can smash things.
