Product Positioning & Context

AI Executive Synthesis
A straightforward, free, and privacy-focused alternative to automated financial tracking apps, emphasizing manual entry for security and comprehensive asset coverage (including non-digital assets).
The personal finance management market is saturated with automated solutions, yet a significant segment prioritizes privacy and control over convenience. Asthi directly targets this niche by offering a manual asset tracker, explicitly rejecting automated account access. This design choice addresses a critical trust deficit many users have with third-party financial aggregators. While manual entry introduces friction, it enables tracking of diverse assets, including illiquid or non-digital holdings like precious metals and real estate, which automated systems often struggle with. The product's free model and focus on user-driven data input position it as a secure, comprehensive alternative for individuals seeking granular control and privacy in their financial oversight. Its success will depend on a streamlined manual entry process and robust reporting features.
Hey HN,
I built Asthi to give me a straight forward way to track all of my assets. It's completely free.I've tried a few different products like Mint (before it was killed), empower, google finance, etc. but each had something missing that left me wanting more. After years of being frustrated with each solution I spent a few weeks to build my own. Some design choices
- Intentionally requires manual entry, I don't trust tracker apps to have read (definitely not write) access to my financial accounts. Certain assets like precious metals can't even use this anyway and need to be manual.
- For tax advantaged accounts I try to find proxy tickers since it's custom based on the company or brokerage
- Real estate requires manually entry as well but I'd love to auto pull estimated pricesI haven't spent much time on user experience since I built it for myself so would love feedback! Please send all thoughts and comments, I can iterate quickly and address any issues.
