Product Positioning & Context

zCAD. AI is an AI-native platform for generating parametric 3D models, built for designers, makers and engineers. Describe a part or assembly in plain language, and zCAD. AI generates an editable, dimension-driven 3D model built on real CAD geometry, not a static mesh. • Complete assemblies from a single prompt, with mates between parts • Refine in plain language, or edit dimensions in a browser-based CAD editor • Export to STEP for use in any CAD tool

congrats on the launch team! all the best

This is an amazing product. I used to play text-to-cad in codex, this is another level. The rendering is faster and it creats an editable product, congratulation to the team.

Hey,PH!👋 I'm one of the makers of zCAD.AI. Most tools stop at "it generated something." Engineers care about the edit after that. So We built the version we wanted.
What's the first thing you try to change after AI generates a part?

"Tolerances and materials stay with you" is the right line to draw. Coming from carpentry, I'd test it on something boring, like a bracket for an odd-sized old window sash. If it gets the dimensions right from a plain description, that's a real use for anyone working on older houses.

Quick question: would it be easy to use for someone without any design experience like me?

Hey Product Hunt! 👋 I’m part of the design team behind zCAD.AI.As a designer, my hope for zCAD.AI is to give people more freedom to explore ideas and more ability to turn them into something real.CAD gives us powerful, precise tools, but using them often means translating an idea into a long sequence of commands. I’m excited about a future where we can start by expressing what we want to achieve, and AI helps us work through how to get there—with professional tools always within reach.Today, our first step is generating parametric CAD models from images or text. We see this as the beginning of a broader collaboration: people bring intent, experience, and judgment; AI helps develop possibilities and move the work forward. For me, this is also an exciting direction for AI: helping people create things they can understand, edit, and build upon. In engineering, that means working toward results people can inspect and verify, with control over how their designs evolve.I hope this makes CAD more approachable for newcomers and gives experienced designers more room to explore alternatives, solve harder problems, and spend time on the decisions that matter. That’s the future we want to help build with zCAD.AI. What would you want an AI collaborator to help you achieve in CAD?

Hey Product Hunt! 👋 I’m the first human support agent at zcad.ai, and I love what we’re building.People have been talking about AI for Engineering for years, but real industrial workflows demand precision, reliability, and rigorous standards. Our ambition is to build the world’s best AI-powered 3D modeling and engineering solution—one that meets the demands of real engineering work.I’m here to answer your questions, hear your feedback, and help you get started. What would you like to build with zcad.ai?

Love the generated model stay editable! Congrats on the launch! One quick question, can I refine individual parts of the model with follow up prompts?

Hey Product Hunt! 👋 I’m one of the developers behind zCAD.AI, and I’m excited to share our first launch here.Getting an idea into a 3D CAD model takes work—even when you already know what you want to build. We’re building zCAD.AI to make that starting point easier: describe your part or assembly, include the dimensions and requirements that matter, and generate an editable CAD model. Here’s what you can do:Start with a text description and optionally add a reference image.Generate CAD parts and assemblies, then inspect and refine the result.Continue working on the native model in zCAD.Online.Export solid geometry as STEP to use in another CAD tool.As a developer, what excites me most is helping people get to a model they can keep working on. The first generation is a starting point; inspecting the geometry and developing the design are part of the workflow. If you’re a mechanical engineer, product designer, hardware maker, or simply curious about AI and CAD, I’d love for you to try it with something you actually want to build. What would you create first? And after trying it, where would you want more control over the result?Share your prompts, results, and anything that trips you up. Specific feedback will help us make zCAD.AI more useful. Thanks for checking us out!

Hi everyone, I'm Elle, and I work on product and go-to-market for zCAD. The question we kept coming back to: where is this model going to live? If it lives in a game, a render or a virtual world, a mesh is the right answer, and AI 3D tools already do it well. If it has to work in the physical world, fit another part, take a screw, get printed or machined, it needs CAD: real dimensions, solid geometry, parts that mate. zCAD. AI generates that from a prompt, and exports STEP into the tool you already use.On the product side, a few choices are deliberate. Even the free plan exports STEP, because a part you can't take into your own tools isn't really yours. We turn down figurine requests, because sculpted, organic shapes are what mesh does best, even when you print them. And it doesn't make engineering calls for you. Tolerances and materials stay with you. On the go-to-market side, I'll be honest: we're still learning who needs this most. Makers who 3D print, indie hardware designers, engineers who live in CAD all day? That's a big part of why we're here. Try it on something that has to work in the real world, and tell us who you are and where it breaks.
