Research Abstract & Technology Focus

Today, according to environmental problems such as air pollution, acid rains and accumulation of dust on historical monuments, the protection of ancient monuments’ facades is a subject of concern, and their cleaning is usually postponed due to the high costs of these procedures. This research seeks to use self-cleaning coatings on the surfaces of historical monuments, which not only play the role of self-cleaning but also provide a suitable basis for air purification in their surrounding environment. One example of these materials is the Titanium dioxide photocatalyst. In order to measure the effectiveness of this material on the purification of polluted air, a simulation research method with a computational fluid dynamics approach has been conducted, in which the physical information of titanium dioxide has been used as the primitive data in the Energy Plus software with the Design-Builder user interface. Then by applying this information to the intended surface in the software, it was found that the use of this substance resulted in the cleanness of the simulated surface and the air around it.
