Research Abstract & Technology Focus

Consciousness emerges at the intersection of biological organization, mind-field dynamics, cultural-symbolic systems, and universal coherence principles. This paper develops a transdisciplinary theoretical framework that unifies these domains using the formal structure of dissipative quantum field theory (DQFT) developed by Vitiello et al. and the concept of nested vacuum manifolds. At the biological level, coherence arises from spontaneous symmetry breaking and long-range dipole-wave dynamics within molecular, cellular, and organ-level substrates, summarized as the Θ-fields. The individual mind-field Ψ represents a higher-order vacuum sector with nonlocal coherence properties that are partially independent of biological substrates yet deeply coupled to them. Culture, language, and shared symbolic structures constitute another distinct vacuum domain—the Logos-vacuum—providing semantic attractors, interpretive frameworks, and symbolic stability. Above all these layers lies a meta vacuum 𝒱 imposing universal symmetry and coherence constraints. We show that consciousness corresponds to the dynamic alignment of Θ, Ψ, and Logos within 𝒱, while self-consciousness emerges when Ψ generates a meta-representational loop: it observes Θ through the symbolic structures of Logos and stabilizes its own state by coupling to the meta vacuum. This nested four-layer architecture explains embodiment, reflective awareness, cultural embeddedness, identity formation, introspection, and the continuity of mind beyond momentary physiological states. Drawing from quantum field theory, neuroscience, phenomenology, cultural semiotics, linguistics, cognitive science, and systems theory, we propose a unified ontology in which consciousness is a multi-vacuum attractor rather than a material structure or computational process. This model provides a coherent foundation for future research on integrative cognition, psychosomatic coupling, collective meaning formation, and the physics of mind.
