Research Abstract & Technology Focus

Warehouses are undergoing rapid transformation driven by e-commerce growth, demand volatility, supply chain disruptions, labor shortages, and rising sustainability and resilience expectations. This paper proposes a smart warehouse management framework designed to support monitoring, optimization, and autonomy-related capabilities through the lens of the triple bottom line (People, Profit, and Planet) and aligned with Industry 5.0 principles. By conducting a comprehensive literature review and an exploratory data analysis using literature data, this study examines commonly applied analytical methods and investigates emerging technologies in warehouse management including Cyber-Physical Systems, digital twins, cobots, and reinforcement learning. The analysis highlights gaps and challenges in current research and practice, particularly in integrating emerging technologies with sustainable and resilient warehouse operations, especially regarding the use of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for performance measurement and decision support. Based on these insights, the paper proposes a conceptual framework that integrates warehouse activities, sustainability dimensions, and enabling technologies to support more informed decision-making and identifies directions for future research on sustainable and resilient warehouse systems.
