Research on the effectiveness evaluation system of UUV coverage path planning based on multidimensional metrics

Coverage path planning (CPP) using Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs) has emerged as a pivotal technology in marine scientific research, underwater resource exploration, and military operations. The performance of coverage path planning algorithms directly determines the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of UUV mission execution. To establish a scientific and systematic performance evaluation framework for UUV coverage path planning algorithms, this paper develops a simulation-based testing environment and designs a multi-dimensional quantitative evaluation system. This system encompasses coverage quality, operational efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and environmental adaptability, enabling a comprehensive performance assessment of UUV area coverage algorithms. A comparative analysis of typical algorithms is conducted using selected evaluation metrics. The proposed performance evaluation system provides crucial decision support for algorithm selection and optimization under diverse mission requirements, offering substantial theoretical and practical value for enhancing UUV autonomous operational capabilities in complex underwater environments.
