Technical Positioning
Evolving Clicky from a stateless Claude wrapper to a full personal AI agent with persistent memory, tool use, multi-model support, and an extensible skills system.
SaaS Insight & Market Implications
This issue proposes a significant architectural upgrade for Clicky, transitioning it from a 'stateless Claude wrapper' to a full personal AI agent via OpenClaw Gateway integration. The pain point is Clicky's current lack of persistent memory, tool use, and multi-model support, limiting its utility as a sophisticated AI companion. The market implication is clear: users demand advanced AI capabilities beyond basic conversational interfaces. Integrating OpenClaw would unlock persistent context, browser control, code execution, and multi-LLM flexibility, positioning Clicky as a more powerful, extensible solution. This highlights a critical trend in the AI market: the shift towards composable, agent-based architectures that offer deeper functionality and customization, moving beyond single-model, stateless interactions.

OpenClaw Gateway as alternative backend (memory, tools, multi-model)
Summary
Clicky is amazing as a screen-aware voice companion — the cursor overlay, push-to-talk, and POINT system are genuinely next-level UX. But right now it's a stateless Claude wrapper: no memory between sessions, no tools, no persistent context.
I'd like to propose adding OpenClaw (github.com/openclaw/openclaw Gateway as an optional alternative backend — so Clicky can talk to a full personal AI agent instead of vanilla Claude.
What is OpenClaw?
OpenClaw is an open-source (MIT) self-hosted AI gateway that connects agents to messaging surfaces (WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord, etc.). It provides:
• Persistent memory — workspace files, conversation history across sessions
• Tool use — browser control, code execution, file system, git, cron jobs
• Multi-model — Claude, GPT, Gemini, and others via a single gateway
• Built-in TTS — ElevenLabs already integrated (reusable for Clicky)
• Skills system — extensible agent capabilities
It exposes a WebSocket Protocol (v3) that native apps already use (macOS menu bar app, iOS/Android nodes).
Proposed Architecture
Clicky (Swift) ←→ WS Protocol v3 ←→ OpenClaw Gateway ←→ Agent (memory + tools + skills)
The key idea: replace the Cloudflare Worker proxy with a direct WebSocket connection to OpenClaw Gateway. The Worker becomes optional (standalone fallback mode).
I would like to see this as well but I don't think this should be restricted to OpenClaw as OpenClaw exposes both OpenAI and [OpenResponses](https://www.openresponses.org) endpoints. the later ones should be preferred for the generic implementation.

hit this exact problem building a screen-aware voice agent on macOS. started with one provider, added a backend abstraction six months in. the transport layer isn't the hard part, the streaming semantics are what bite you. Claude sends tool_use deltas, OpenAI chunks function_call differently, and tool schemas aren't portable without a translation shim. POINT-style coord parsing is also where providers diverge most, Claude is consistent on format while GPT drifts without a tight system prompt. we kept the default direct path and treated gateway mode as an alternate transport behind a flag, otherwise every backend change turns into a regression hunt across the overlay layer. +1 on not coupling it to one specific gateway.

in workers .dev.env add your api keys, it has paid elevenlabs key so tell claude to set free elevenlabs voice id instead unless you have paid elevenlabs version

I made a pr which replaces all apis with native tools (Siri voice) and agent sdk so you can use your Claude subscription if you want to :) https://github.com/farzaa/clicky/pull/29

Really cool project, and I mean this in a friendly heads-up way, not a drive-by dunk. A bit more detail on why I called these out: - The Worker is doing the right job in principle by keeping secret...
finally, please can you add Openrouter support so we can get rid of Anthropic ? Also please can you add a text chatbot optional interaction (useful to take note of long replies) ?
after installation i didn't see any option to add keys for LLM providers, just had the clicky appear on screen. i tried opening clicky again and this screen appears on my second initialisation.

Implemented in https://github.com/farzaa/clicky/pull/20 - replaced the empty Settings scene with a short message pointing users to the menu bar icon.
