Report: codex-shim Desktop install shows shim loaded, but custom models do not appear and chats disappear
I tested 0xSero/codex-shim against a fresh Codex Desktop setup on macOS.
Important context: this was not tested on my previous partially patched/broken setup. Before retesting, I cleaned the local Codex-related state, backed up the Codex app/profile/config pieces, removed the prior Codex/shim remnants, reinstalled Codex, and then ran the repo setup again from a clean state.
Goal
Use codex-shim to make Codex Desktop show additional custom models in the normal model picker, while preserving my existing Codex profile/chats/projects.
What I Did
Backed up the Codex-related local state/configuration.
Removed the prior Codex/shim installation remnants.
Reinstalled Codex Desktop fresh.
Created/cloned a local copy of the 0xSero/codex-shim repo.
Followed the repo flow for installing/running the shim against Codex Desktop.
Provided model configuration so the shim had additional models to expose.
Ran the shim setup.
Launched Codex Desktop through the shim path.
Confirmed that Codex Desktop displayed the small overlay/indicator showing that the shim was loaded.
Opened the model picker to check whether the additional models were available.
Expected Result
After the shim loaded, Codex Desktop should have shown the configured custom models in the model picker, alongside GPT-5.5 / the normal Codex model.
My existing chats/projects should have remained available, or at minimum the ...
