TLDR: After the first detection, AirCard keeps showing the
previously connected iPhone and never picks up a new one. If
a detection run fails to decode, the refresh button is
disabled forever.
Summary
On macOS with the current device_helper-based detection, the
app detects a device once at launch and then never
re-evaluates. If the iPhone is connected after launch,
swapped for another, or unplugged, the UI keeps the old
state. The "Refresh device connection" button can also
become permanently disabled, so the user has no way to
recover except restarting the app.
The device itself is fine. It is unlocked, trusted, and
visible to macOS.
Environment
- macOS (Apple Silicon or Intel), AirCard built from source
- iPhone connected via USB, unlocked and trusted, iOS 27
Steps to reproduce
1. Launch AirCard with iPhone A connected. It shows
"Connected to iPhone A".
2. Unplug A and plug in iPhone B (or launch AirCard first
and connect the phone afterwards).
3. The status capsule still shows A in green, or "No iPhone
found", and does not update.
4. If any detection run returns empty or invalid output,
e.g. the airlift probe hangs or fails on a
not-yet-trusted device, the refresh button stays greyed
out permanently.
Root cause
1. Detection runs only once (AirCardApp.swift:524, :721)
checkDevice() is called only in init and when the refresh
button is pressed. There is no polling, so vm.device is
