CD-DA Reader is a Rust library designed to read audio CD data, leveraging knowledge of SCSI commands.

Technical Positioning
A personal project demonstrating systems programming capabilities and the utility of LLMs for learning complex technical domains.
SaaS Insight & Market Implications
This is a niche, personal systems programming project. While it showcases Rust's capabilities for low-level hardware interaction and the author's learning process with LLMs, it lacks B2B SaaS relevance. The market for audio CD ripping libraries is mature and largely consumer-driven, with limited enterprise application. There are no clear developer pain points addressed at a B2B scale, nor does it align with current SaaS trends beyond the incidental use of LLMs for personal learning. Its impact on business operations or software development workflows is negligible. This project serves as a technical exercise rather than a commercial product or foundational B2B component.

Show HN: CD-DA Reader, Rust library to read audio CD data

I have lots of audio CDs and last year I did some systems programming, so I figured it would be cool to rip audio CDs using my own software. I used LLMs to understand how it is done, and I've learned a great deal on how SCSI commands are formed and processed.I also wrote a separate app to actually rip the CDs using this library and populate the metadata, but I think technically it is much less interesting.I think the biggest takeaway is that if you have some intimidating project, give it a try! It might be very much doable.
