Rocannon: A tool to convert any Ansible module into an MCP Tool and record exploratory sessions as runnable playbooks.

Technical Positioning
A bridge between Ansible's IT automation capabilities and LLM tool calling, enabling LLMs to execute Ansible modules and automatically generate playbooks from interactive sessions.
SaaS Insight & Market Implications
Rocannon targets the operational efficiency of IT automation and the emerging paradigm of LLM-driven orchestration. By enabling LLMs to directly invoke Ansible modules and automatically generate playbooks from exploratory sessions, it significantly streamlines the creation and deployment of automation scripts. This addresses the pain point of manually translating operational intent into structured automation code. The leverage of `ansible-doc` for schema extraction ensures robust tool calling. For B2B IT operations, this capability accelerates infrastructure as code development, reduces human error, and democratizes automation by allowing natural language interfaces to drive complex system configurations. Rocannon positions itself as a key enabler for intelligent automation platforms, enhancing the agility and scalability of IT management in multi-cloud or hybrid environments.

Show HN: Rocannon – Any Ansible module to MCP Tool, record sessions as playbooks

I've been using Ansible for IT automation for a while, and the process of writing imperative playbooks in something that looks closer to English I felt was a good fit to design MCP tooling around. I specifically wanted to have a process of running Ansible modules directly as tools from an LLM and record it so my exploratory sessions can become runnable playbooks. The ansible-doc command already emits the schema for each module, so tool calling is nice and structured, and it feels nice to have this available ad-hoc with all the existing Ansible collections that are out there.
