Falling Fruit
Falling Fruit is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 nonprofit based in Boulder, Colorado, USA. All proceeds from sales of our mobile app help pay to keep our servers and website online. Purchasing the app is itself a tax deductible donation, and we greatly appreciate your support in keeping Falling Fruit online!
Our global map of edible plants is not the first of its kind, but it aspires to be the world's most comprehensive. While our users contribute locations of their own, we comb the internet for pre-existing knowledge, seeking to unite the efforts of foragers, foresters, and freegans everywhere. Imported datasets range from small neighborhood foraging maps to vast professionally-compiled tree inventories. So far, this amounts to over 1,200 different edible types (most, but not all, plant species) distributed over nearly one million locations. Beyond the cultivated and commonplace to long-forgotten native plants and the exotic flavors of foreign plants, foraging in your neighborhood is a journey through time and across cultures.
Falling Fruit is not associated with Fallen Fruit. Fallen Fruit can be found at fallenfruit.org.

Idk why everyone is out here hating lol, the app has been working great for me and has a lot on it!!
I am determined to post this • May 8, 2026
I was already annoyed I had to make an account but it won’t even load anything. The old website worked way better even on mobile.

Good concept but it’s severely outdated. Came across a lot of post from 2013. It’s 2026!!!

I want to love this but it crashes before you can log in

I paid money for an app that doesn’t respond. It says my gps isn’t working by all my other apps disagree.

Just a brilliant idea! Why aren’t you keeping up with it???? There are ever more hungry people, including me! I’d love to forage. Please get it running 🙏🌷

I really think it should have filter options like… filter out all the dumpster diver posts… and it be a setting that saves. I personally don’t want to eat anything that risks having discarded glass or needles… and I don’t particularly consider this foraging. I want to know things like where people saw onion grass, dandelions, or pawpaws… not where people found half eaten bagels… 🤢

The descriptions atleast need coordinates or some some way to identify where the fruit is. Great idea but bad execution

Save yourself the money it doesn’t work

This app is clearly a bit outdated, you can see many listings from 2013-2014. But I have a theory, stick with me, that this app will blow up again. With the rise of interest in environments, nature, foraging, etc, this app would honestly be so effective and helpful for more digital-dependent foragers. I’ve seen this around, and I think I’ll see more soon hopefully. This app has so much potential.

The app is barely usable and since it relies on the public to submit locations, it isnt worth getting unless you live in Boulder, CO. I want. A refund.

This app is so helpful! However, it could be helped by basic updates, such as being able to filter out some plants you don't want to see, and being able to filter basic plant families, instead of needing to specify a specific species. For example, it would be much easier to find crabapples if there was an option to show anything that was named crabapple, instead of having to search for a specific species.

After finally being able to set up an account I have yet to be able to use the App because it never loads any actual data. When I use the (free) website it pops up quickly with locations and pins.

Absolute gem of a concept. Whoever made it has moved on, but it’s still full of relevant info. Fortunately trees outlive apps!
Deal with the flaws if you want this delectable info.

This app may have worked at some point but it’s broken now.

Super buggy, even down to sign in, not sure if anyone ‘really’ uses it.

I’m a little confused as to why I am getting charged another 1.99 when app stated 5.99 one time fee? And how or where do I cancel if this is in fact a subscription?!
Fredzxcvbnm • Jun 25, 2023
I just paid for the app and registered but it’s telling me that I have the wrong password and also that the email address is taken. It is taken by me and it’s the right password, but there seems to be no way out of this. I can’t even open the app.
Need lots of fixes • Apr 15, 2023
After repeated attempts to get the app map to stay on my California coastal location it returned to Boulder, Colorado so it’s not working well not intuitive.
By contrast, the Savage Kitchen app located me correctly right away.
So, after typing in my full address and zip code numerous times to force the map to my location, I noted zero entries for local plants, so I tried entering a plant and the “take a photo “ button was dead, so unable to take photo of plant.
Can I get a refund of my 99 cents?
