Every time I’ve installed the app I’ve become more appalled by the hyper capitalist nightmare that this app has become, but I have to say, the absolutely shameless GREED of new “energy” feature is BLOWING MY MIND. Absolutely embarrassing and shameful. Horrible. Deleted the app instantly.

I have nothing wrong with the style of the lessons, I do have some doubts about the usefulness in a real conversation; but the app is pushing hard to upsell to their paid version, and is really effective at paywalling. The free version won’t even let you get through 3 lessons in one day, amounting to less than 5 minutes of practice - the app’s minimum for daily sessions.

Best app ever it’s so cute

I deleted this app after it canceled my 489 day streak. I found Babbel and I’m learning a lot more! I should have started there first.

I just got this app today and wanted to learn some German, which was pretty cool 😎, but the app keeps telling me to buy a free trial and then after the trial, pay, like, why do i have to pay for learning different languages even though that stuff is supposed to be free for everyone. I’d like something to change with that. Bitte und Danke ♥️. (Luv u too Duo)

Wonderful app, use the block your adds function to practice daily, that’s the key, always practice everyday even if it’s just for 5 minutes, this app truly will develop your speaking skills for another language as long as your practice for 5 to 10 minutes daily!

When I start a lesson BEFORE midnight, that should count as the day before. If I started after midnight then obviously that’s the next day. Too often I will FINISH right at 12 o’clock a.m. and they don’t credit me for the prior day. So then my streak is broken and I have to repair it by purchasing gems. This is a trash policy and one that may make me get rid of Duolingo.

doesn't teach the differences between formal and casual in Japanese and probably other languages as well. It also barely teaches how to structure sentences or anything like that. This company been beginning to sellout to AI. One personal sidenote: The kidnapping joke is getting overused, so literally shut up.

When making updates to lessons it would be nice to not only keep me at my current section but also if I’ve made legendary on every unit in previous sections, that needs to be maintained also. It’s frustrating when updates are done and to have to return to previous sections to redo legendary on most units. If some units have maintained the legendary status, why not keep it for all of them? It’s counter productive and keeps me from moving forward in lessons.

So I got this a really long time ago, and I loved it so much you get to learn new things and I saw just Spanish. It’s French and so much more more. I have nothing to hate about this game. The only thing that is that I can’t keep up with it and I was being lazy so I ended up deleting it, but you should probably get it if you’re not a lazy chump like me.

My German has improved. Thanks and I hope you’re impressed of me, Duo Keyshauna Renee Lingo, since I have a 223 day streak.

I remember 5 or so years ago I could log in to my free account and do as many lessons as I wanted. My ability to continue taking lessons was limited by how many I got wrong and it was just a couple of hours to wait for my hearts to refill so I could continue. I would only see non-intrusive, silent ads in between lessons. Now, I can only do 2 mini lessons before my “energy” runs out even if I was careful and got everything right. I might be able to learn a couple of words per energy cycle, but it takes a full 24 hours before the energy is restored. Not to mention between every lesson there are full audio ads with really cringy AI voice-overs. All of these “features” like chatting with an AI companion that have been added don’t justify how scummy this company has gotten with trying to make the free-use experience so miserable that people either leave or pony up for the “pro” or “premium” or whatever new paid option they’ve come up with. I remember when this app use to be a passion project and the developers actually cared about making learning a language accessible. I think I’ll just stick to my Anki cards from now on.

Plenty fun but a bit demanding to get back on the streak and either way I have to do a streak, but those days wouldn’t be available
