This app worked fine prior to AI and now it is required to do some of the lessons. For the speaking lessons, it’s annoying that one has to stop, start, and send the recording. In terms of content, for example learning job titles, it would be nice to learn more every day titles prior to “astronomer.” I think I’ve met one astronomer in over 30 years of life. The spelling blocks are also annoying, though I understand it’s so text doesn’t autogenerate the words - still, it’s annoying.

Lessons fly by too fast, not enough practice, random unknown words thrown at you, very disappointing! NOT HAPPY WITH BABBEL!

The grammar and pronunciation lessons are confusing! It starts with choosing an answer out two choices but the choices are tricky and confusing!

This site is neurodivergent friendly with all of the audio and visuals, and the repetitive styles of learning. I found this to be the best possible way for people who are on the autism spectrum or ADHD to learn a new language as you can go at your own pace. But it being so visual and auditory friendly that people like me even with dyslexia, autism, and ADHD can still thrive. Well done. My hats off to the creators!

Even with a “lifetime” they still charge fees.
Total rip off.
Beware.

Not an app for learning to speak. It’s a college level grammar course teaching rules to a language you don’t know. Waste of time and money. If you want to speak and understand there’s far better apps.

I have been using a different app for Spanish for quite a while, and while it does work and is fun, Babble explains what I am learning, has excellent daily reviews, podcasts that have given me those “a ha” moments, and truly challenges me. With daily effort (15-20 minutes) I am making real progress.

The app is quite manipulative calling the act of not signing up for auto renew a subscription cancellation. I paid for a year subscription- not a lifetime of auto renew. I can choose to extend my current subscription of one year if and when the time comes. I am not off to a good start considering they are already playing games.

I can’t post another response but I can modify this one. I saw your response to my post. The fact you didn’t address the word play is not good. I have a subscription. I paid for a year. You describe not automatically renewing as a cancellation. Its deceptive. I wish you addressed this more honestly. .

Do you have a book with English and Italian sub titles?

There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason into the learning plans just a bunch of random things together in a very hot fashion. The audio aspects work sometime and don’t work other times. I could not recommend this.

if you are consistent with this app you will learn a language. I have learned several languages in 3 months and when I went to a country, I spoke relatively well to the locals. Honestly it’s on me for not continuing to practice anymore when I leave a country and lose my progress. But if you treat it like your default language and practice everyday, you won’t lose your progress

I will repeat what I wrote in the Review Title - Do NOT buy this App if you are wanting to learn European Portuguese (Portugal). Their Portuguese course focuses on Brazilian Portuguese and not European Portuguese. That is very disappointing to me as that is NOT what I wanted and they of course did not tell me that when they took my money. When I used their AI help option to find out more about this, it says that they do not offer European Portuguese at this time. They should tell people that up front before they take their money that you are not buying or getting what you think you are paying for. They go on to say that “both versions are mutually understandable” but there are certainly differences in vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation between the two. They go on to say that “you will still be able to communicate effectively with people from Portugal”. Sorry but being able to likely get your point across to someone is absolutely not the same as learning the language of the country. Tell people up front before they buy what version of Portuguese they will be learning.

From reading reviews of the various apps available to learn to speak a language, Babbel seemed like a good option, too bad they wanted my money more than they wanted to be honest and up front with me about what I was actually buying. I guess I will be looking at other language learning apps now even though I bought a lifetime license from Babbel thinking that was the best way to go…

This app is boring and started me at way too low a level. Kill and drill.
