It's so weird that it *isn't already* open source by default. If it's introduced as a replacement, why is it not... replacing it?

So much of the functionality and aesthetics are cloned straight off Claude Code. I wonder if they utilized the source code in some form, from the source code leak Claude Code had, and that's why they're shy to release it, due to 1:1 rewritten segments. Or it's entirely vibecoded. I see absolutely nothing that should be proprietary in this.

It's probably because they don't want to make it easy to expose raw inference for usage, as many were abusing the endpoints to power OpenClaw. I did manage to extract raw compute from Cascade in Antigravity 2 to power Claude Code, but at present, I am unsure as to its risks.

@Sinhran you can abuse endpoint in milion ways. they just don't want to share with competition, because $ is all it matters.

Codex is and has been open source, and it's going so much speed and trust from everyone for it. Definitely recommend you guys OS.
