Product Positioning & Context

Wagotabi is your daily companion for learning Japanese from scratch, at your own pace, and with maximum immersion. Learn to read, write, and understand Japanese in context, while retaining Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji. Use your knowledge directly in context, by interacting with locals, and using Japanese in daily situations.
Discover real Japanese cities and culture while going on a quest to become a Japanese Grand Master.

Designed in close collaboration with +300 Japanese language experts, official Japanese prefecture tourist associations and thousands of early testers, Wagotabi provides you with an immersive approach to language learning following a graded reader approach. Words and grammar points are introduced according to the JLPT standard, beginning with N5.

Very well structured and fun to play. The best part is that the developers continue to update it, so it grows in value over time. And do check out BAND-MAID that’s mentioned in the game!

I’ve used several Japanese learning apps. This app is is very well polished. Every corner of the app was mindfully created. Don’t rent your software. Own it!

I really like it so far

Great to use as an extra fun way to study! I’m a beginner, but I’d like to think this game would help me at least get through the airport in Japan. Highly recommend. Radicals and brush strokes aren’t taught but common phrases and public spaces kanji are and that’s very real world applicable too!
Fast paced game • Feb 11, 2026
Love this game so far, it’s just a little fast paced for my learning style. It has you learn a new word almost every time you talk to someone. I will update my review as I get further into the game if that changes. Overall it’s fun, just not enough time/repetition for me currently.

Sound won’t work, paid for the app and I’m guessing my way through so far

I could just be too dumb, but I felt like I was picking up quickly on everything until very early in the game when the immigration officer asks to see your suitcase. For me, I don’t understand what half of the questions are asking for or they’re written in Japanese which I obviously don’t understand yet. It was really fun and helpful up until that point, but now I’ve tried to pass that 10 times having to guess half the time since I don’t know what they’re asking.

I think these developers clearly know what they are doing. The system they have in place for learning a very difficult language challenges you that traditional testing and online AI apps usually don’t, it offers opportunity for slight immersion learning while having key aspects of memory retention tied to game progression. This effectively induces a tighter memory as you need to know what you remember to efficiently get through the game. The psychology of this tricks your brain to remember things faster as it sees it as a necessity to get a task done, the dopamine is insane when you start to play this game, definitely a top tool when it comes to learning Japanese efficiently. If I could have donated all the money I spent on migaku and other tools into this app for more immersion and lessons I would.

Please continue to develop this app for higher difficult Japanese lessons, or make other spin off games/DLC about Japan that we can pay for so we can continue to support you) that focus on learning Japanese for a deeper content learning/immersion.

Making other language games in this style would also be appreciated, but I truly believe you have found your niche with Japanese language and to keep the quality of this game consistent it would be best to keep resources to this project for a while longer.

In terms of monetary gain and the way cultural attraction to Japan is at an all time high right now; it might be in your best interest to keep it Japanese for larger profit potential.

The quality is very high with this one. Keep at it I am proud of you Wagotabi team.

Wagotabi gives you really comprehensive tools to practice your reading and listening comprehension, and is great for someone like me who isn’t quite confident to learn by stumbling through speaking with native speakers yet. And it’s FUN! I feel like a kid again playing pokèmon under the covers

I have seen so many great games discontinue and I am so sad. This is such a creative, effective and FUN way to learn a language that bridges the gap between very beginner level stuff and the harder stuff. I have been looking for something like this for years!

I am a gamer so this is right up my alley. Having fun helps me retain the knowledge. I also like the old Pokémon game format. Worth every penny.
