Use Microsoft Authenticator for easy, secure sign-ins for all your online accounts using multi-factor authentication, passwordless, or password autofill. You also have additional account management options for your Microsoft personal, work or school accounts.
Getting started with multi-factor authentication
Multi factor authentication (MFA)provides a second layer of security. When enabled, during login after entering your password, you’ll be asked for an additional way to prove it’s really you. Either approve the notification sent to the Microsoft Authenticator, or enter the one-time password (OTP) generated by the app. The OTP codes have a 30 second timer counting down. This timer is so you never have to use the same time-based one-time password (TOTP) twice and you don’t have to remember the number. The OTP doesn’t require you to be connected to a network, and it won’t drain your battery. You can add multiple accounts to your app, including non-Microsoft accounts like Facebook, Amazon, Dropbox, Google, LinkedIn, GitHub, and more.
Getting started with passwordless
Use your phone, not your password, to log into your Microsoft account. Just enter your username, then approve the notification sent to your phone. Your fingerprint, face ID, or PIN will provide a second layer of security in this two-step verification process. After you’ve signed in with two factor authentication (2FA), you’ll have access to all your Microsoft products and services, such as Outlook, OneDrive, Office, and more.
Getting started with autofill
Microsoft Authenticator app can also autofill passwords for you. Sign-in on the Passwords tab inside the Authenticator app with your personal Microsoft account to start syncing passwords, including the passwords saved in Microsoft Edge. Make Microsoft Authenticator the default autofill provider and start autofilling passwords on apps and sites you visit on your mobile. Your passwords are protected with multi-factor authentication in the app. You will need to prove yourself with your fingerprint, face ID, or PIN to access and autofill passwords on your mobile. You can also import passwords from Google Chrome and other password managers.
Microsoft personal, work or school accounts
Sometimes your work or school might ask you to install the Microsoft Authenticator when accessing certain organization resources. You will need to register your device to your organization through the app and add your work or school account. Microsoft Authenticator supports cert-based authentication by issuing a certificate on your device. This will let your organization know that the sign-in request is coming from a trusted device and help you seamlessly and securely access additional Microsoft apps and services without needing to log into each.

Cannot find two digit 2fa in this app
Worst Authenticator app in existence. Good luck trying to re-register any linked accounts with a new phone; MS has somehow created an endless input loop that pulls the login page for any given app up INSIDE the Authenticator, meaning when it asks for your login approval and/or verification code, you can’t access it without cancelling out of the login.
Probably the result of more vibe- or AI-coded slop that Microslop is so proud of.

Microsoft makes it near impossible to log into your accounts by sending you into an endless loop of verifications and password resets that is simply ridiculous.
Logged me out of everything and now the only way too get logged in is too get a passkey from the account they logged me out of? Oh but also if I want too re add the account I need the passkey too the account I got logged out of that I can’t access either. I can’t access my class or my college and I’m going too miss the deadlines of my assignments . Very unhelpful
This app is outrageous. It is so frustrating to have to authenticate so often and so thoroughly each time. I don’t think it’s necessary to use my Face ID to get into the app, then again to approve my request, in addition to typing in a number code?? Yes it’s me, how many ways do I need to tell you. Also why can’t this just be an email or text code. The fact that I have to have my phone and sign in to this app every single time I’m trying to get into my account is upsetting and extremely time consuming.
I run a small business and have to have an Authenticator for each pc, for each application. Right now that is 8 Authenticators for my 8 machines.
64 uniquely named Authenticators
There is no way to group authenticators into files that I have found.
What I would like for example: machine 1 being a file and inside it the 8 authenticators that are associated.
Right now I get to scroll and scroll until I find the 59th or the 36th Authenticator for the machine and application I need it for.
Then there’s all of my other authenticators in addition to the office applications.
Basic organization capability would really be great.

“Please sign in to Authenticator on your phone.” Ok
“To sign in on your phone, tap the code we just sent to Authenticator on your phone.” I can’t. I’m not signed in, so I don’t receive the code
“Oh, well, login with your password instead.” Ok great
“Because this is sensitive you also need to tap the code we just sent to Authenticator on your phone.” I CAN’T!!!!!!!
What genius designed this?

My school makes us use it so if you wanna be re logging in every five minutes, i recommend.
This app is just more of the same garbled inability of Microsoft to get its products to work together. In switching to a new phone I tried to log in to Authenticator only to find myself stuck in a loop where it wanted authentication from itself to allow me into the app, which of course I couldn’t give because I wasn’t yet logged in to the app. I am now stuck without any access to email on my phone, and one of the attempted “fixes” was a reset (didn’t work) that now has me locked out of everything. An hour later after trying to explain to tech support, they are supposedly working on a back end fix that may take up to 24 hours, all the while with my business completely shut down.
microsoft is the worst software in history. ugly and useless.
I have to re-setup the 2FA every couple of days.
Do you care about your own personal information? Do you even care about security? If so, I highly recommend you get this app.
No longer pops up when you’re logging into M365, forcing you to manually find and launch the app.
When trying to sign into Microsoft apps on a new phone, it requires the Authenticator TO SIGN INTO THE AUTHENTICATOR. It required a password change twice before I could finally use another method.
Microsoft Authenticator used cellular data even though cell data is turned off. Something is wrong.
My work requires us to use it for 2FA. I turned off cellular data, and just use the TOTP rotating number. I authenticated with the TOTP, that supposedly uses the time and a seed number to generate a 6-digit code. Even with the cellular data off, the app alerted me of the authentication event.
