Product Positioning & Context

AI Executive Synthesis
Legal compliance, distinct brand identity within the audio software market.
This discussion reveals a critical legal and branding risk associated with the product name "Soundcraft." The existence of a well-established audio hardware company with the same name creates significant trademark infringement exposure and market confusion. The proposed alternatives (SonusCraft, MixCraft, AudioCraft, WaveCraft) highlight the difficulty in finding a unique, relevant, and legally clear name within the crowded audio software ecosystem. The immediate need for a name change is paramount to mitigate legal liabilities and establish a distinct brand identity. Failure to address this proactively will impede market entry, marketing efforts, and overall product legitimacy.

JACK is cross-platform and runs on Linux, Windows, macOS, and FreeBSD.
Pipewire is Linux-only, so would cover much less use-cases.

Just go for (proper) JACK support (read: open arbitrary ports not tied to a physical device) and let pipewire-jack handle it for the PW folks.

> 2\. +1 for Pipewire 1st, over JACK, please. The last thing we need is to be forced to use the older, deprecated, more convoluted for the end user sound system. To put it bluntly: without pipewire support, nobody is going to use this.

I wouldn't exactly call JACK deprecated. Its like saying ASIO is more convoluted than WSAPI when it just targets a very specific use case.

most software targets pulseaudio and/or jack and lets pipewire pick up through the compatibility interfaces. pw-jack for example lets you subsume ardour or carla in to a pipewire desktop even though those only speak JACK.

Indeed, most definitely Pipewire. I am using pipewire-jack on my machine rather that just JACK but some people will likely have the JACK server as a standlaone implementation so the application needs to be compliled with that in mind.

This is the same bug as #15 , and #20 (open) already fixes it: off macOS, a held Ctrl now counts as the shortcut's Cmd, with tests for both platforms. So I won't open a second PR here.

You can already get Ableton Live mostly for free with the Lite version? (some limits like 8 tracks but most of the stuff in Studio is there)

Seems a little like reinventing the wheel.

What about AudioCraft or WaveCraft?
gustavoribeirorg • Oct 9, 2026
FruityCraft would be awesome

Mixcraft is already an existing 20+ year-old DAW by the company Acoustica.

unfortunantely, you can't

the word "MixCraft" will be confused with the word "MixCloud", a DJ set, Soundcloud esque hosting company
