> **Annoyance** - As an end user, I can tell you having to sit through unskippable splash images does not improve my like of the brands that are shown.

This is my only major concern. I don't want to waste people's time. I have a game I'd like to port to BRUTAL that people play for hundreds or thousands of hours. I don't want to make people wait for a few unnecessary seconds every single time they launch the game forever!

I would be 100% happy with the license if they added a clause that was something like:

> End users may skip the logo by pressing a key or by launching the application with a command-line argument, provided that doing so also skips any other logos that are shown before gameplay.

I want to give due credit, I want my game's players to know that it was made with BRUTAL, but I don't want my game to be annoying. I worry that complying with the license will be annoying for players, if not on the first few game launches then certainly by the 100th game launch. I know I cer...

A problem I have with the licensing of this project is that existing licensing has been proven in court while custom one usually don't. Has this custom license been tested in court? The framework is interesting but my main rebuttal is that I don't want to use a non standard license because I don't like uncertainties on that level.

We have tested it with WebGPU

@Skyedra yeah didn't unity remove the splash screen requirement even for free users eventually for these exact reasons? There were a TON of low quality slop games being made in unity that were forced to have the splash screen since most of them were made in the free version and it didn't exactly help their brand image at all lol. I mean they've certainly been able to do perfectly fine at ruining their own reputation themselves over the past few years but those low quality games certainly didn't help. Unfortunately forced splash screens don't exactly help as much with positive exposure as much as the people who want to force them think it does...

I largely agree with this.

For me, the important distinction is between attribution and mandatory product branding.

Requiring the copyright notice, NOTICE file, and even the BRUTAL logo in the credits seems completely reasonable. The people building BRUTAL absolutely deserve credit.

The splash requirement feels different. Section 2.2 makes the logo part of the startup experience before gameplay or the application's primary function, and personally I don't think forcing that is the right way to handle attribution.

I say that as someone currently experimenting with BRUTAL and finding it genuinely interesting. From what I've tried so far, it may let me build things I've wanted to make for quite a while, but where Unreal or Unity either got in the way or required increasingly awkward workarounds. I want to see BRUTAL succeed.

That's also why I think the licensing friction matters. Many projects start as experiments or prototypes and only later become serious projects. Having a custom ...

Would the WASM port still use vulkan, or are you guys adding some sort of WebGPU/Dawn/wgpu backend?

And I am sitting on some really cool WebAsm demos šŸ˜„, and personally **can't wait** to post my first Brutal games on [itch](https://itch.io/), right in the browser!
And yes, Android and consoles are within reach, but no roadmap though, at the moment things happen on a "as needed" basis.

Hi there! We haven't heavily invested into it but we already proof of Brutal working on:

- WebASM
- Xbox
- Android

I'm sitting with 4 android devices in front of me testing an app built in Brutal in different aspect ratios as I write this so I'm pretty motivated personally, but officially speaking we are prioritizing the major desktop platforms (Windows, Linux, macOS).
