Research Abstract & Technology Focus

Automated sorting has become one of the principal mechanisms by which warehouses evolve from static storage facilities into responsive service hubs. This paper examines how the adoption of automated sorting technology shapes operating performance in start-up and emerging-market business settings, comparing an advanced adopter with an early adopter operating under significant infrastructural constraints. Using an exploratory qualitative design, the study draws on semistructured interviews with supply chain managers at Landmark Group (United Arab Emirates) and DAL Group (Sudan). Transcripts were examined through content analysis organized around four themes: production speed, economic and service benefits, technical and implementation challenges, and maintenance response. Both firms reported that automated sorting shortened cycle times, reduced manual intervention, and improved dispatch accuracy, and both linked these gains to lower operating costs and more reliable delivery performance.
