Accessibility and completeness of open-sourced hardware design files (CAD files, dimensions, hardware references) for `TranslateGemma`'s enclosure.

Technical Positioning
Achieving full transparency and replicability for `TranslateGemma` hardware, extending the open-source ethos beyond software to physical components. This requires detailed CAD files (STL, STEP, Fusion 360, Onshape link) and precise hardware references for community replication and contribution.
SaaS Insight & Market Implications
This discussion reveals a strong developer demand for comprehensive open-source hardware documentation, specifically CAD files and component references, for `TranslateGemma`. While STL files are present, users require more detailed formats (STEP, Fusion 360, Onshape links) and explicit hardware specifications to replicate and contribute to the physical enclosure. This indicates a market trend where the open-source paradigm extends beyond software to integrated hardware solutions. Vendors releasing open-source projects with physical components must provide complete, actionable hardware designs to foster community engagement and adoption. Incomplete hardware documentation creates friction, limiting the project's potential for community-driven innovation and broader ecosystem development.

Will the hardware CAD files for TranslateGemma be open sourced?

Hi TranslateGemma team,

First of all, thank you for open-sourcing TranslateGemma. It’s a fantastic project and I’d love to build the hardware myself.

I was wondering whether you have any plans to release the enclosure CAD files (STL, STEP, Fusion 360, or similar) used for the prototype shown in the blog post and demo.

If the files cannot be released, would it be possible to share some information about the enclosure dimensions or the hardware design? I’d be happy to contribute an open-source enclosure for the community if that’s helpful.

Thank you for your time, and congratulations on the project!

@dubreuil534 I can see the STL files in https://github.com/google-gemma/gemma-translator/tree/main/stl, am I missing something?

Maybe the exact hardware references that can fit into the 3d printed parts?

This was design in Onshape (check video) so maybe they could share the link?!? 👀
