Gemini Executive Synthesis
System RAM requirements for loading and running Qwen3.8-27B with vLLM, specifically addressing limitations with 16GB main system RAM.
Technical Positioning
Enabling deployment of Qwen3.8-27B on systems with constrained main memory, potentially through optimized loading strategies or reduced memory footprint.
SaaS Insight & Market Implications
This issue exposes a critical system RAM bottleneck for deploying Qwen3.8-27B, even with a dedicated RTX 3090. The model's 15.87 GiB checkpoint size, coupled with only 10.07 GiB available RAM on a 16GB system, prevents successful loading. This directly impacts accessibility for users with common desktop configurations, limiting the addressable market. The inability to leverage `swapon` or auto-prefetch indicates fundamental memory requirements that are not easily circumvented. For B2B SaaS, high system RAM demands increase infrastructure costs and complexity, hindering broader adoption. Solutions for reduced host memory footprint or more efficient checkpoint loading are essential to expand deployment options.

Could not start because of low RAM
Hi,
Main system ram is 16GB, using iGPU (-256MB) and freeing all rtx3090 vRAM.
However I tried swapon but could not workaround on the memory issue.
Question, is there a way to run it with such an small system RAM ?
(EngineCore pid=5555) INFO 08-24 16:26:46 [weight_utils.py:867] Filesystem type for checkpoints: EXT4. Checkpoint size: 15.87 GiB. Available RAM: 10.07 GiB.
(EngineCore pid=5555) INFO 08-24 16:26:46 [weight_utils.py:897] Auto-prefetch is disabled because the filesystem (EXT4) is not a recognized network FS (NFS/Lustre) and the checkpoint size (15.87 GiB) exceeds 90% of available RAM (10.07 GiB).
