Technical Positioning
High-fidelity, performant game execution with accurate UI rendering across Windows and Linux, including AMD GPUs. The goal is a visually correct and playable experience.
SaaS Insight & Market Implications
This issue reports a 'broken UI on Linux,' specifically a pure black background in menus instead of the expected blurred view. This indicates a rendering pipeline issue, potentially related to Alpha 3's 'new render-target path' or AMD/Mesa driver interactions. While performance on Linux (35-50 FPS on RX 560) is deemed acceptable by the user, the UI defect compromises the visual experience. The developer's suggestion to test `SAVAGEWIND_VK_NO_FEEDBACK_LOOP=1` points to a specific rendering technique as a potential culprit. For a B2B SaaS product, cross-platform UI rendering consistency is crucial. Discrepancies like a black menu background signal underlying graphics API or driver compatibility challenges, particularly on Linux with AMD. Addressing these rendering nuances is vital for delivering a polished, consistent user experience across diverse operating systems and hardware configurations.

### Savage Wind version

0.3.0

### Game version

1.9.0

### Your PC

Linux Cachy OS, Rx 560 4gb and I7-4770

### Where in the game

Only saw this on menu for now

### What happened, and how to make it happen again

Windows version unfortunately runs at 20 FPS for me so its completely unplayable and Cachy OS 35-50fps

### Settings

60FPS, 1366x768 16:9 fulscreen on, no upscaler and no vsync

This ss is on windowed but It is happening on FS too or i wouldn't even report it lol

Hi @NOOBTW00 Would you mind Sharing your log for me to look further into?

[savagewind.log](https://github.com/user-attachments/files/33919102/savagewind.log) here It is, sorry the wait and keep up with this amazing work!
Revivedx • Oct 25, 2026
Thanks for the log! Comparing your screenshot with the same Inventory screen here: the hearts at the top and the Sheikah Sensor and temperature icons next to Link are part of the game's inventory screen, so those are expected. What does look wrong is the background: it should be a blurred, darkened view of where you are, and yours is pure black. Is that the problem you mean, or is something else broken too (other menus, text, layout)? A screenshot of another screen that looks wrong would help. To narrow down the black background, could you start it once with Alpha 3's new render-target path turned off and tell us if the background comes back? ``` SAVAGEWIND_VK_NO_FEEDBACK_LOOP=1 ./Savage_Wind-0.3.0-alpha.3-x86_64.AppImage ``` About speed: an RX 560 with an i7-4770 is near the bottom of what the game needs right now. Better performance on AMD is something we're working on, and AMD on Windows is currently slower than on Linux (Mesa).
NOOBTW00 • Oct 25, 2026
WOAH the performance already is good ennough to finish the game for now, 35 to 50 is alot better than any emulators and you're telling me It will improve even more ? Omg!

version 1.8.2, but i was trying to find the 1.9.0 update, without success. But if it faild even with 1.9.0 it is useless to search for it, isn't it?
