chop.ax, a web tool to strip sites down to their core content.

Technical Positioning
A tool for accessing essential content, particularly useful for 'extreme bandwidth-constrained networks.'
SaaS Insight & Market Implications
chop.ax targets a niche but critical market segment: users operating under severe bandwidth constraints. By leveraging Readability and Puppeteer, it efficiently extracts core content, addressing the bloat prevalent on modern websites. The caching mechanism with Redis further enhances performance for repeat access. This tool's primary value proposition is enabling content access in environments like Meshtastic, where data efficiency is paramount. While its broader market appeal might be limited, it solves a specific problem for users in remote, disaster-stricken, or low-connectivity regions. This highlights a persistent demand for lightweight web experiences, contrasting with the increasing resource demands of typical web applications.

Show HN: chop.ax – strip sites down to just their content

I built web tool for accessing just the (usually text) content of sites. It handles news sites best, thanks to Mozilla's fantastic Readability library. It also supports sites that use client-side rendering, using Puppeteer. Stripped pages are cached in Redis. My main use-case for this tool is for extreme bandwidth-constrained networks, eg Meshtastic (with an internet gateway).
