Gemini Executive Synthesis

A 3D train tracking visualiser for London and surrounding airports, leveraging TFL API, National Rails, deck.gl, and Cloudflare Workers for real-time, low-drift journey visualization and sharing.

Technical Positioning
Demonstrates the performance capabilities of deck.gl and Cloudflare Workers infrastructure for real-time geospatial data visualization, while also enabling train journey sharing.
SaaS Insight & Market Implications
This submission highlights the increasing demand for real-time, high-fidelity data visualization in public services and logistics. The architecture, combining deck.gl and Cloudflare Workers, exemplifies a trend towards serverless, specialized rendering libraries for complex geospatial data. Developer pain points addressed include managing real-time API integrations, ensuring data accuracy, and achieving performant client-side rendering for interactive 3D experiences. While offering a B2C sharing feature, the underlying technology's robustness is significant for B2B applications in urban planning, logistics, or public transport management. SaaS providers in mapping, IoT, or real-time analytics can leverage similar scalable, interactive data delivery architectures, reducing operational overhead and improving user experience. The focus on performance and infrastructure testing indicates a mature approach to system design.

Show HN: Follow London Trains in 3D

deck.gl based visualiser of the TFL Api + National Rails to be able to track (with minimal drift) a train along the way in London and to the nearest airports. If you pick one from any platform in nexttrain.london basically you can share your train journey along the rails. Build to test Cloudflare workers and their infra along with deck.gl performance that is incredible in my opinion.

Interesting but quite buggy. Example: mouse dragging seems trapped in a fairly small area.

This is incredibly cool. I had it open on my desktop for most of the day.

I'd love to see a view with all/many trains. In London I was constantly wondering what the criss-cross of underground lines looked like.
Falimonda • Jul 8, 2026
How do I drive the train? Arrow keys not working :(

Having just taken the Elisabeth Line to LHR T5 and sitting here, this was fun. Thanks.Edit: Is there a Repo to look at and learn from this?

The train paths are drawn on a 2D layer above the buildings, not at z-index that matches the proper 3-D position. So the paths appear to weave around and over the tops of buildings.

It would appear you are missing the High Barnet branch of the Northern line.

The planes were a surprise

Very nice, but the map seems to be in the wrong position vs. the trains/3d elements.

This is really cool!Quick suggestion: When not tracking a train, the mouse wheel should zoom into / out from where the cursor is pointing, rather than the center of the window.
