Gemini Executive Synthesis

Persistent bookmarks display within the sidebar column.

Technical Positioning
Enhanced user customization and productivity for bookmark management, drawing inspiration from modern browser UIs (e.g., Arc). The product aims to offer flexible and efficient navigation for power users.
SaaS Insight & Market Implications
This feature request identifies a significant opportunity to enhance bookmark accessibility and management within `Search`, particularly for users with extensive bookmark collections. The current popover-only approach is inefficient for power users. Integrating bookmarks directly into the sidebar column, similar to Arc, offers a more persistent and discoverable navigation experience. This aligns with a strategy of catering to advanced users who prioritize efficiency and customization. The suggestion for an opt-in setting demonstrates an understanding of user preferences and avoids alienating existing users. Implementing this feature, especially with community contribution, could significantly boost user satisfaction and differentiate `Search` by offering a more robust and flexible information architecture.

Bookmarks in the column, above the tabs

In the sidebar's mode, bookmarks only live behind the bookmark button at the foot of the column, in a popover. With a lot of them (folders included), I'd like them in the column itself, above the tabs, as Arc does:

- A **Bookmarks** section between the pinned tabs and the tabs, rows the same size as a tab's. A site opens on a click, a folder opens in place.
- Bookmarks and tabs scroll together when the column runs out of room.
- **Off by default**: Settings › Tabs › "Bookmarks in the sidebar". An unconfigured browser looks as it does today; the row across the top doesn't change.
- The button at the foot stays (Add This Page, Manage Bookmarks…).

I'm happy to build it if that's welcome!

+1 to this - I use Zen Browser as my daily driver too, and having bookmarks live in the sidebar above the tabs (instead of tucked away in a popover) is one of the things I miss most when I switch over to Search. Would love to see this land here as well. I could take a shot at implementing it myself, but it looks like a fairly involved change, so I'm not sure I'll find the right window for it soon. Once the core features settle down, this feels like something worth putting time into.

I'm also having this issue with the extensions menu in the bottom left of the tab bar (with vertical tabs) as well. When I go to pin/click on an extension, the popover closes.
