Gemini Executive Synthesis

Text search functionality, specifically for vertically laid-out text (CJK).

Technical Positioning
Comprehensive text processing capabilities, including accurate search across diverse layouts, matching Adobe Acrobat's functionality.
SaaS Insight & Market Implications
printcraft's text_find failing to detect occurrences in vertically laid-out text (tategaki), particularly CJK characters, is a critical functional limitation. While pdftotext correctly extracts both horizontal and vertical instances, printcraft only identifies horizontal matches. This deficiency severely impacts document search capabilities for internationalized content, especially in East Asian markets where vertical text is common. For an Acrobat alternative, comprehensive text processing, including accurate search across diverse layouts, is non-negotiable. This bug significantly hinders printcraft's utility for global users and professional workflows involving multi-directional text, limiting its market viability in key regions.

text_find does not return occurrences in vertically laid-out text

## Summary
In a PDF that contains the same string once horizontally and once vertically (one glyph per line, top to bottom), `text_find` returns only the horizontal occurrence.

## Environment
- Linux x86_64 (Ubuntu, headless), printcraft 0.2.1, `printcraft-cli mcp`
- Test PDF made with reportlab (non-embedded CID font, one character drawn per line for the vertical column); `pdftotext` extracts both occurrences.

## Steps to reproduce
1. Create vert.pdf containing a horizontal line `横書き: はただ商店 秋のセール 10月22日まで` and a vertical column spelling `はただ商店` / `秋のセール` / `10月22日まで` (reportlab script below).
2. `pdftotext vert.pdf -` prints the horizontal line and the three vertical groups `はただ商店`, `秋のセール`, `10月22日まで`.
3. MCP: `doc_open {"path":"vert.pdf"}`, then `text_find {"doc":1,"query":"商店"}`.

## Expected
`count` = 2 (horizontal and vertical).

## Actual
`count` = 1; the single rect is on the horizontal line (y ≈ 45.9). Same for `はただ商店` (1), `セール` (1), `10月22日` (1).

## Notes
- n=2 per query, 4 queries.
- Duplicate check (storytold/printcraft, --state all): "text_find", "find vertical", "tategaki", "CJK", "日本語", "text extraction" -> none.

## Script to generate vert.pdf
```python
from reportlab.pdfgen import canvas
from reportlab.pdfbase import pdfmetrics
from reportlab.pdfbase.cidfonts import CIDFont
f=CIDFont('HeiseiMin-W3','UniJIS-UCS2-V'); pdfmetrics.registerFont(f); VN=f.fontName
g=CIDFont('HeiseiKakuGo-W5','UniJIS-UCS2-H'); pdfmetrics.registerFont(g); HN=g.fontName
