Product naming and branding

Technical Positioning
Legal compliance, distinct brand identity within the audio software market.
SaaS Insight & Market Implications
This discussion reveals a critical legal and branding risk associated with the product name "Soundcraft." The existence of a well-established audio hardware company with the same name creates significant trademark infringement exposure and market confusion. The proposed alternatives (SonusCraft, MixCraft, AudioCraft, WaveCraft) highlight the difficulty in finding a unique, relevant, and legally clear name within the crowded audio software ecosystem. The immediate need for a name change is paramount to mitigate legal liabilities and establish a distinct brand identity. Failure to address this proactively will impede market entry, marketing efforts, and overall product legitimacy.

Trademarked name

There's already a company named Soundcraft (subsidiary of Harman which is also owned by Samsung apparently). They're pretty well known audio mixing consoles maker (soundcraft.com I'm not a lawyer but using the name could be problematic since they're also in the audio ecosystem.

Developer Debate & Comments

In the worst-case scenario, I think SonusCraft can do the trick; the only party sharing the name is an Etsy bracelet seller. Hopefully the Latin doesn't detract from the overall naming convention?

Just throwing in MixCraft and AudioCraft for options. Was also thinking the same about Soundcaft and their long history in audio gear. It depends on the actual classifications they registered the TM with, but better safe than sorry.

It depends on the actual classifications they registered the TM with, but better safe than sorry. Mixcraft is already an existing 20+ year-old DAW by the company Acoustica.

FruityCraft would be awesome

You can already get Ableton Live mostly for free with the Lite version? (some limits like 8 tracks but most of the stuff in Studio is there) Seems a little like reinventing the wheel.

This is the same bug as , and (open) already fixes it: off macOS, a held Ctrl now counts as the shortcut's Cmd, with tests for both platforms. So I won't open a second PR here.
