Performance optimization for tv-detox home screen focus animations on low-end Android TV devices.

Technical Positioning
Achieving smooth UI performance (low frame times, minimal jank) on resource-constrained Android TV hardware by optimizing rendering processes. The goal is to maintain the 'fast again' promise across a wide range of devices.
SaaS Insight & Market Implications
This detailed performance analysis highlights a critical pain point for Android TV applications targeting a broad device spectrum: maintaining smooth UI on low-end hardware. The issue precisely identifies the `window background` rasterization as the bottleneck, not the animation itself. The provided `gfxinfo` metrics and device-specific results (e.g., 75% janky frames reduced to 0-4%) offer compelling evidence of the performance impact and the effectiveness of pre-rendering the background into a bitmap. This demonstrates that even 'tiny' and 'ad-free' applications require deep-dive optimization to deliver on their performance promises across diverse, often underpowered, Android TV devices. The market implication is that robust performance on budget hardware is a key differentiator and a non-negotiable requirement for widespread adoption in the Android TV ecosystem.

Home screen focus animation is slow on low-end GPUs: the 3-layer gradient window background is re-rasterized every frame (pre-rendering it takes it from 36–57 ms to 5–14 ms per frame)

First, thanks for tv-detox. The home screen is small and clean, and I've been using it as the default Home on several of my streamers.

### Summary

On weak GPUs the focus animation was visibly choppy (a hitch when moving between tiles). Profiling with `gfxinfo` showed the cost is not the tile animation (scale / `translationZ` / `withLayer`) but the **window background**: `background()` returns a `LayerDrawable` of three `GradientDrawable`s (one linear and two radial, with dithering) that gets rasterized on every frame. Rendering it **once** into a bitmap makes the frames cheap again, with the same look and no extra memory.

### Devices and results

Same procedure on each device (see "How I measured"). Median frame time and share of janky frames while moving focus:

| Device | SoC / OS | Before | After |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fire TV Stick 4K (2023, `AFTKM`) | MediaTek MT8696 / Fire OS 8 (Android 11), 4K panel, UI at 1080p | 36 ms, 75% janky | **5 ms, 0–4% janky** |
| Mecool KD3 Google TV Stick | Amlogic S905Y4 / Android 14, 1080p | 57 ms, 77% janky | **14 ms, 5–7% janky** |
| Fire TV Stick 3rd gen (`AFTSSS`) | Fire OS 7 (Android 9), 1080p | 13 ms, 27% janky | **6 ms, 6% janky** |
| Xiaomi Mi TV Stick (`MiTV-AESP0`) | Amlogic S805Y / Android 9, 1 GB RAM, 1080p | not measured before | 7 ms, 8% janky (after) |

### What I tried (to find the cause)

- **A. Drop `translationZ` and `withLayer()` from the focus animation:** no change (38 ms and 57 ms medians on the two slowest device...
