Gemini Executive Synthesis

Performance issues (crashes, screen tearing, stuttering, frame generation failure) in the Shadow of the Colossus PC port, particularly on AMD hardware (RX 9070, 5800x).

Technical Positioning
Achieving stable, high-performance gameplay across various resolutions and with advanced features like frame generation, especially on AMD platforms. The goal is to eliminate crashes, tearing, and stuttering for a smooth user experience.
SaaS Insight & Market Implications
This extensive discussion reveals severe performance and stability issues plaguing the Shadow of the Colossus PC port, particularly for AMD users. Persistent crashes across resolutions, screen tearing, and non-functional frame generation indicate fundamental rendering pipeline and optimization problems. While some issues like 'High quality textures' crashes are addressed in updates, core problems like 'slow and stuttery' performance and frame generation failures persist. The developer's comment about 'open-world FPS is limited by the CPU' points to potential bottlenecks beyond GPU rendering. For B2B SaaS in game development or porting, this highlights the critical need for robust QA, multi-platform optimization, and comprehensive performance profiling across diverse hardware configurations. Failure to deliver a stable, performant experience directly impacts user satisfaction and product viability.

the game crashes on any resolution. theres heavy screen tearing no matter vsync setting. i turned off all enhancement settings tested at 1080 1440 and 4k all crash. game does not boot with frame generation on with any setting. in 60fps pro mode. have 32gb, 5800x amd 9070

[last_run.log](https://github.com/user-attachments/files/33730262/last_run.log) wanted to update, saw that you suggested turning off high textures in the launcher and i confirm it works with no crashing 10 mins into the game at 1080p with all enhancements off. performance is still slow and stuttery still. tearing is mostly gone but still a bit of an issue. still doesnt boot with frame gen on. major screen tearing with graphical glitches with anything about 1080p even at 1080p 60 the game runs extremely choppy. frame drops in the open world , stutters everywhere.

The crash with High quality textures on (`0x1a371`) is fixed in 0.60.3 , so you can turn it back on after updating (https://github.com/AjncSystem/ShadowOfTheColossus-PC/releases/latest). Frame generation not starting on the RX 9070 is not a known problem: on 0.60.3, please attach a `user/last_run.log` from a run with frame generation on, and one at a resolution above 1080p that shows the glitches. Stutter in new areas is mostly first-time shader compiles (cached for next time); open-world FPS is limited by the CPU.

The game doesn't launch anymore for me and just crashes no matter what setting I use. [last_run.log](https://github.com/user-attachments/files/33744063/last_run.log)

Adjacent Repository Pain Points

Other highly discussed features and pain points extracted from AjncSystem/ShadowOfTheColossus-PC.

Extracted Positioning
Lack of support for older CPUs (e.g., Intel Xeon E3 1230V2, lacking AVX2 instructions) in the Shadow of the Colossus PC port, leading to immediate crashes on launch.
Expanding CPU compatibility to include older architectures, specifically those lacking modern instruction sets like AVX2, to broaden the addressable market for the PC port. The goal is to ensure the game launches and runs on a wider range of hardware.
